NEWSPAPERS

In the periodicals reading room on the second floor of the Main Library it is possible to read the newest issues of Finnish and international newspapers. Newspapers are kept in the reading room for approximately two weeks.

The availability of the newspapers can be searched via Volter database since most of the journals in Turku University Library collections have been catalogued in there. Information on newspapers missing from the database but available in the library can be found in the card files which can be browsed on the second floor of the Main Library. Newspapers situated in closed stacks can be read in the newspaper reading room in Juslenia after a call slip request has been made.

Finnish newspapers

In Turku University Library there are almost all newspapers published in Finland either in original form or as microfilm.

In addition to originals and microfilms in closed stacks there are also newspapers in the microfilm reading room on the second floor of the Main Library. There are microfilms available of some of the most read newspapers without making a call slip request. Photocopying of printed Finnish newspapers is forbidden.

International newspapers

There are international newspapers ordered to Main Library of which there is a list under the link international newspapers. The principal rule is that in addition to this year the previous year is stored.

More information on electronic newspapers can be found under the heading Electronic newspapers.

There are 19 titles of microfilmed newspapers in the Main Library, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries.
