ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

Databases

Databases are retrieval systems which include information on published books or articles. It is possible to browse or search information contents with search terms and it is often possible to print, save or email the search results.

At the moment there are approximately 200 databases to choose from  in Turku University Library. They are available through Nelli portal. There are different kinds of databases:

Reference databases consist of reference information (who has written and what etc.) about published books, journal articles, dissertations etc. There are reference databases on different subject-fields.

Full text databases consist of full texts in addition to reference information. Electronic journals can often be read via full text databases. The journal databases as well as packages of electronic books in Nelli portal are at the same time full text databases.

Library databases include information on the publications of the library collections.

The Nelli portal offers metasearch possibility from part of the databases. However, the searcher should always consider whether the qualities of Nelli search are sufficient. It is often wiser to use the own interface of the database in question in which it is possible to formulate the search more precisely.
