The new library practices make things easier

The new practices of the Turku University Library are valid from 1.9.2010. Also, many of the requests from the LibQUAL customer survey from early spring are carried out. The library databases - Volter and Valpuri - are combined as one Volter database.

 Automatic renewal

The automatic renewal of loans was taken back into use in August. All 14 and 28 day loans (excluding course books) will be automatically renewed for a year if there is no reservation for them.  If there is a reservation for a loan, the customer will get a notice by email before the next due date.

Improved course book availability

Most of the course books can be borrowed for two weeks. They can easily be renewed via Volter database if there are no reservations made. Also, the number of possible renewals for course books has been increased.

The course book fine is one euro (1 € / a day / a book).  It will hopefully improve the circulation and availability of course books.

Course books can mainly be borrowed from the Course Book Library, Turku School of Economics Library and the Medical Library. Some course books are also available in other faculty libraries. Course books in the Main Library’s deposit collection (Fennica-collection) are not available for customers.

The loan ban increases returns

If a customer has received several return notices and still fails to return his loans after 28 days of the due date (14 days for course books), the loans will be marked as Lost. This will cause the customer a suspension of borrowing privileges. Also the overnight and weekend will be marked as Lost and cause the suspension of borrowing rights.

The lost loans must be returned / paid as soon as possible in order the customer to continue borrowing and renewing his other loans.

Customers’ fines

Customers can now check their personal information for fines via Volter database. The lost item processing fee is 5 € per book.

Free library services

All basic services of the library still remain free. The payments will only accumulate if the customer does not follow the borrowing regulations.

New practices agreed with TYY

The new lending practices and fines have been agreed with the Student Union of the University of Turku.
