Publication of master's theses in Turku University publication archive
The electronic publication of master’s theses in the Turku University publication archive has been possible already for two years (rector’s decision 23.4.2007 dnr 375/002/2007.; available (in Finnish) at http://kirjasto.utu.fi/aineistot/verkkoaineistot/openaccess/julkaisuarkisto-paatos.pdf). The rector’s decision primarily recommends the electronic production of all academic theses and their publication in the Turku University publication archive.
The following summarizes the main principles of the publication of theses in the publication archive:
- The publication archive can be found at http://publications.utu.fi. The Master’s theses collection may be found at https://oa.doria.fi/handle/10024/13122.
- Guidelines for submitting master’s thesis are available at http://kirjasto.utu.fi/en/publserv/ (bottom of page)
- A publishing agreement is made with the author. The author owns copyrights to his work. The agreement regarding theses is made in one’s own faculty. The agreement form can be found at http://kirjasto.utu.fi/julkaisupalvelut/ohjeet/sopimus-opinnaytetyo-english.pdf
- There are no grade restrictions for publishing. All accepted theses may be published in the University publication archive.
- Turku University Library will add theses to the Turku University Publication Archive. You may submit the work to the library by email kirjhall@utu.fi, in person or by post to address: Turku University Library, Publication archive, FI-20014, UNIVERSITY OF TURKU. The publishing agreement has to be made in the faculty before delivering the work.
The electronic publication of master’s theses in the publication archive will bring the following benefits:
- Increased visibility and readership for theses
- Wider and easier accessibility of theses. Readers increasingly wish for electronic publishing because of the easier accessibility of publications. Publishing electronically also lowers the need and costs of interlibrary lending.
- Attaching the thesis e.g. to a job application portfolio, is simple
- Thesis is made available for the public quickly and efficiently
