BORROWING AND RENEWALS

Borrowing

Collections of Turku University Library are available for everyone either for reading room use or for home loan. Customer needs a valid library card for borrowing printed materials. Loan periods vary.

Locations of the materials can be checked via the online library database Volter. Call numbers in Volter database tell in which library the material is situated. When the call number is PÄÄ Fennica or PÄÄ Genera, the material has to be requested one day beforehand via Volter database. Detailed information about how to make reservations and call slips can be found under the heading Requests. More information about borrowing can be found under the heading Library Collections.

Handling loans

It is strictly prohibited to underline or in any other way damage the library materials. The customer is obliged to replace the damaged or lost item. The customer can also acquire a similar copy to replace the lost or damaged item.

Renewals

Automatic loan renewal

If there are no requests, all loans with a loan period of at least 14 days, will be automatically renewed for one year.

Self-renewal of  loans

Course books will not be automatically renewed. Customers will have to renew these loans by themselves.

Customers are recommended to renew loans through the library’s web pages.  If the self-service renewal does not work, you can renew loans by telephone, e-mail or on site in the library.

The renewal of receipt loans

For the material that has been received as receipt loans the self-renewal through the library’s web pages is not possible, and they have to be renewed by the library staff. The receipt loans held in the library lockers may be renewed by writing down the latest usage date on the date slip.

Materials that cannot be renewed

Night, weekend and short-term loans cannot be renewed.

Courtesy notice for the approaching due date

Customers who have notified the library about their e-mail address will receive a courtesy notice for the approaching due date. The notice will be sent for 28 day loans 4 days before the due date and for other loan types (except for night, weekend and short-term loans) 2 days before the due date.
